Quarter 1 and DONE!

Even though I do fitness for a living, it's not always easy for me to put my fitness first. It's HARD to stay motivated. I can just as easily talk myself out of doing my workouts, drinking the water, getting to bed early and all the other things that I know we should be doing to feel like my best self.

If you're feeling a little out of sorts as the spring blooms are sprouting outside, here are a few tips to boost your motivation.

1. Create a system of habits that align with how you want to feel.  Want to feel rested? Go to bed 15-30 minutes earlier. Want to feel more organized? Make a weekly list on Sunday in order of priority, and cross out one or two a day. Want to feel more focused? Slow down and take a breath. Rome wasn't built in a day.

2. Get rid of the excuse, "I don't have time." Here's the thing- the amount of time you spend doing something is not as important as the number of times you have done it. Don't stress if you don't have 30 minutes or even an hour to devote to your workout. Just 10 minutes of moving your body in a way that brings you joys yields results for your body and your mind.

3. When it comes to moving, choose something you love (see above). Don't love running? Walk. Don't love going at it on your own? Group fitness classes are awesome. Think you have to be flexible to do yoga? Yoga is a process of growth. It has very little to do with touching your toes, and A LOT to do with getting in touch with yourself and the things that bring you the most ease and joy. Don't be scared to try something new. You might be surprised at the feeling of accomplishment you have once you do!

4. Don't get caught up in having a "goal." That's right, I said it. Goals are GREAT, but when we put so much emphasis on getting to a desired weight, fitting in a certain size, or thinking that life will be different "if only," we miss out on the beauty of the process. If you want lasting and more meaningful results, focus on the process.

5. Practice gratitude. When all else fails, give thanks. Gratitude is not reserved for just those times when something grandiose lands in your lap. Close your eyes and inhale the aroma of your first morning cup of coffee. Hold the gaze of your fur baby or a loved one for just a little longer and let that feeling seep into your heart. Look up, outside and all around you. Life is good.
