FAQ’s

+ I'm new. Where do I start?

Try an All-Levels yoga class! All our classes are designed to work for various stages of experience, from novice to advanced practice. Let your instructor know if it’s your first time attending any of our classes so they can guide you through it. Then, try all of our amazing classes! Find your sweet spot with the up-beat energy of Cycle, the full-body experience of Barre, or one of our integrative Fusion classes. We encourage you to try a variety of classes for a well-rounded sense of health and happiness.

+ How do I sign up?

You can create an account here or in the Brown Dog Yoga app. If you’d rather, we’ll walk you through it over the phone or in the studio. Just come to the studio 15 minutes before class so we can get you set up.

+ What should I wear or bring? It depends on the class!

-Water. Stay hydrated during and after your class. If you forget your water, we have some available for purchase.

-If you are cycling, you will have a better experience if you wear cycling shoes with SPD clips. If you don't have cycling shoes- no worries. Simply wear clean, thicker-soled tennis shoes.

-For yoga, please bring your yoga mat, although we also have them for rent.

-For fusion you need clean tennis shoes that are comfortable to move in.

-For barre, pilates, and yoga- you do not need shoes or socks, but you may wear toe socks if you tend to slip.

-All equipment is provided for your classes so you can check out of the world, and check in with yourself

-All personal belongings, including cell phones, must be stored in the cubbies located just outside of the studio lobbies.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to reach out to us at (304) 208-5170.

P.S. During class, we use backlights and sometimes flashing lights that may trigger photosensitive epilepsy. Loud music may be experienced in cycling and fusion classes. If you are sensitive to any of these, please consult with your health provider prior to your first.

+ Should I eat before class?

Try to avoid eating for two hours prior to class. We want you to feel comfortable while moving. However, we recommend you do what feels good for YOUR body.

+ How does it work when I get there?

When you arrive at the studio, check in with the front desk. The staff will help you sign in and give you a tour of the studio, then help you set up for class.

+ Is there a beginner class? What if I can't do everything in the class?

All of our classes can be adapted to any fitness level. They’re designed to fit each person’s unique abilities by adjusting the resistance level on a bike, choosing lighter weights, or modifying a pose. We encourage you to honor your body. Each class will bring increased confidence and strength, so go at your own pace and have fun! Just let your instructor know if it’s your first class of that type.

+ I’ve heard about heated classes. How do I know if they’re for me?

BDY has both heated and non-heated classes at all levels. If you are interested in trying a heated class, bring water and a towel (we offer towels and have water for purchase). Barre, TRX and Fusion classes may feel warmer as they are more active classes. Keep in mind “heated” means 86-90 degrees as we create plenty of our own heat with movement.

+ Is there a way to make the bike seat more comfortable during Cycle classes?

The bike and bike seat require a little getting used to if you’re a beginner. It sometimes helps to wear padded bike shorts or use a cushioned gel seat as you’re becoming accustomed to the bike.
